The talk began with a lot of extrapolation of statistics of world energy usage. Bioenergy makes up ~10% of global energy mix, and 87% of that is wood biomass. Biodiesel is developed 29% in Germany and 24% in the U.S. Bioethanol is 54% in U.S. and 37% in Brazil. Europe has a higher diesel market, while we are more on ethanol. The issues behind global bioenergy developments are transport services, climate change, engine technology, and the fact that renewable energy tech is still in its infancy. That is where Task 39 comes in.
