The journal article Synthetic biology and biomass conversion: a match made in Heaven? is very interesting and realistic. It is basically breaking down the many ways in which cheap, abundant renewable biomass can be converted into valuable products. However the biomass necessary to do this are not naturally occurring and requires the manipulation of numerous metabolic pathways and synthetic biology. This article covers many of these synthetic biology techniques and mechanisms to improve the conversion of biomass into products, including and focusing on biofuel. The combination of these emerging techniques offer the potential to wean off our dependence on fossil fuels and utilize a more sustainable alternative.
