This scientific article talks about Engineering microbes for biofuel production. In order for microbes to make significant and efficient production specific pathways in the cell must be changed. This isn’t as simple as it sounds. Microbes must be engineered but one of the problems are pathways bottlenecks. This article talks about deducing pathway bottlenecks and optimizing cellular circuit design. By manipulating and evolving metabolic enzymes it serves to increase the number and types of chemicals that can be produced. Strain development becomes an important process whereby pathway manipulation is followed by a system level study to identify potential bottlenecks. By extensive engineering it will be necessary to increase titers to enable production of biofuels.
